USDA GAP Plus + Certification achieves GFSI Technical Equivalence
The Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) announced yesterday that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA AMS) has achieved GFSI Technical Equivalence. We want to congratulate USDA and Ken Peterson, Chief of the Audit Services Branch at USDA-AMS Specialty Crops Program, on this significant accomplishment.
“This important international recognition cuts down on paperwork, saves money and time, and ultimately grows markets for American farmers. Technical Equivalence means USDA can now provide a single audit that meets US and international regulatory and market-driven food safety requirements”
– Gregory Ibach, USDA Under Secretary for Marketing and Regulatory Programs
Here at the LGMA, we have a close working relationship with USDA. LGMA auditors are employed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture and licensed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. We will explore ways to incorporate USDA’s GFSI program into the LGMA audit offerings. It is our goal to ensure that LGMA audits are not only rigorous but that they provide the most value to our members and produce buyers.
